Americans don't do work experience during their A'levels, they typically don't start this until they are already undergraduates and then they call them 'internships'. As a result, you will not find what you are looking for using this expression.

Since you will in any case need a place to live, someone is going to need to invite you to stay and then help you organise working in a nursery. As this will be unpaid, you should be able to do it on a tourist visa.

Better start shaking down your relatives and friends to see who they know!
