Work And Study

Work study?We Answered:
there are many perks to work-study. The most prominent are that they are on campus and that they are very lenient with your school schedule. For example, during final exams, they would not expect you to work as much and it is much easier to get off for breaks such as winter or spring break because the school will be closed.Because you have not yet built up a resume, this might be the perfect place for you to start. Other jobs will look at past work experince.
It still can;t hurt to apply for more jobs outside of the school if they pay more or are more interesting to you. Working two seems very unnsecessary and only causes more complications.
At the fair make sure to get everyones names and information. THere are often application you can fill out there, and the people at the booths often have a say in the decision, so look proffesional and have a good attitude towards them. THe most important thing about interviews and similar situations is to make yourself stick out in a positive way.
Good luck

Work-Study?We Answered:
Wow... a work-study question! These are my favorite. I've run a few of these programs in my day. :-)Whether an employer has to pay depends on the employer and how your school runs their programs. To be certain your best bet is to talk to financial aid or whoever is the work-study coordinator who can answer this question for you.
If you work on campus, the school pays the employer share of the work-study funding. You usually do not have to worry about this.
If you work off-campus with a group other than your school it will depend. Non-profit companies usually have to pay between 25-33% of the work-study earnings, unless your school does cover these expenses. Some schools with bigger budgets will do this because it helps you work in a degree-related (required for off-campus employment) work setting and most non-profits cannot afford to pay even these smaller expenses.
You can work for a private company as well, but they are usually required to pay between 50-58% of the earnings. They must also employ you in a position related to your degree studies. Most schools that I am aware of will not offer to cover this employer share. Still a good gig for a private company. Cheap labor.

Work study is a program though the school that you are currently attending. You first must apply for financial aid (via www.fasa.edu or financial aid department) to see if you qualify. Then if you qualify, you look around the campus for a work study positions. Look around to find the one that best suits you and your skills. There are work study places (at lest in my college) in the cafeteria, grounds keepers, library, and office work. They do not pay all the same so money may be a factor in your dissensions. Most all work study possessions are flexible when working around your classes and family.Hope this helps.

It depends on if your 8.50 an hour job is a college work study job or not. If you had it before you were awarded work study, then probably not. You can work both, (the work study job will be a different job in most cases.)Ted Said:
I have a $3000 Federal Work Study award, will I get paid the lump sum once I start working or incrementally? We Answered:
No, having a Federal Work Study job is similar to having any other job. Your work study job is part of your financial aid package. You will be paid by the hour, so you will not be able to get a lump sum payment. Your payment must equal at least the minimum wage.Marlene Said:
How do you balance work study and college? We Answered:
you need to be efficient. get things done! aim to get a certain part of your work finished by the time you need to go to work. will you be working on campus where you can study while you work? If so, bring your books and study while you work! and, make sure you have enough time to get all your school work done, don't set unrealistic expectations- allocate a reasonable amount of time to each subject. good luck, i know its hard but you can do it!Daryl Said:
What happens if my work study doesnt pay enough? We Answered:
Keep on the well paid off-campus job.You can do reduced hours in either of the jobs.
Apart from not wanting debt, what is your objection to loans? They are the means by which degrees are financed.
Are you so focused on remaining debt-free that you'd rather give up your studies?
