Work Experience Accountancy
Peggy Said:
Is there anywhere I can gain work experience & academic qualifications in the field of accountancy? We Answered:
You could try the Association of Accountancy Technicians exams which can be taken while working for an accountancy practice, employer in industry or Local Authority. This can then lead into professional exams such as ACCA or CIMA.It would be more usual to get your degree and then go straight to ACA, ACCA , CIMA or CIPFA exams.
If you are considering quitting your degree: Most employers would like to see evidence that you can stick with something and quitting after two or three years takes quite a lot of explaining.
You should also remember that taking the AAT to professional exams is a longer route that you might well get tired of as well. Some theorhetical learning is unavoidable because it is very unlikely any training will give you practical experience of all the areas you study in full. (Specialisation in tax or working in a small practice might be exceptions but if you dont like theorhetical study you may not like tax exams)
My advice would be to grin and bear it for this year. It will be over before you know it and a degree opens doors and gives you options. What class you get is less important than the fact that you got one.

Can i do work experience in accountancy field? We Answered:
If you're in the states, I would consider looking into a program called INROADs that starts you off in the 10th grade with job training, interviewing, and hopefully landing a job w/ an accounting firm so that you can gain experience! Hopefully they have an office in your area, check out the website http://www.inroads.org/Leroy Said:
Does anybody know any large accountancy firms that offer a summer time intership or a work experience? We Answered:
Most of them do. Check out their websites. Some of the biggest include:Cap Gemini Ernst & Young (CGEY)
Andersens
BDO Stoy Hayward
KPMG
Price Waterhouse Coopers
Deloitte and Touche
Don't go to an agency as suggested by some other people. Companies only pay agencies to find skilled and experienced staff that are hard to come by. Internships have to be applied for directly because companies only tend to hire students and grads directly - why would they pay an agency to find someone when they are over-run with student and grad CVs directly?
Put together a good CV. Elaborate on your relevant experience - including projects you have undertaken as part of your studies. Talk about your areas of strength and put together a good covering letter discussing what you're looking for. Follow up with a call to HR to show enthusiasm.
