Work Experience Education

Willard Said:

I have a job interview next week how do i describe education and work experience?

We Answered:

I am amazed that you have a BA and can't figure this out. What they want to know is how do you handle stuff...how do you do your time management....how do you handle stressful situations...how do you handle problems when they occur...how do you handle 'people issues'. They want to know how you will fit in their company...how will you make them money. Hope this helps.

Ruth Said:

How can someone like me with more education experience then work experience find a job?

We Answered:

SO what is your education in and how far have you taken it? That is question number one, next is are you looking to start at the top of the ladder or willing to learn the ropes from a position a little farther down the line? All these things make a difference in which avenue to take

Kyle Said:

What is a good entry level position for little work experience and education?

We Answered:

go to a temporary service. they can get your foot in the door at office complexes doing filing or something. and work your way up. actually i got a job filing at a hospital and they paid way over minumum wage and eventually offered me other work that paid great. i'd say anything with the medical field or maybe as a courier with a law firm. with kids, maye look into a daycare job where you'd get a discount

Leona Said:

How do you make a resume if you don't have much work or education experience?

We Answered:

you need to lengthen your sentences and concentrate on the actual tasks you performed whilst in each job... for example

Cash handling = One of my responsibilities involved cash handling. I was responsible for the day to day running of the counter which included cashing up at the end of the day.

I served at tables = One of my main duties was waiting on tables. I had to achieve an extremely high level of customer care, Listening to the customers requests and ensuring the correct food was given to the correct table.

Explain what your future entitles and again be very wordy and informative with your descriptions. Don't be afraid to sell yourself but be careful not to come across as being big headed or arrogant.

If you are given a section about why you feel you should be employed at a particular company, do some research first and then find out which attributes you can elaborate on.
So if they want someone who can remember numbers, explain that your main duties at your last position involved remembering many order numbers, and then delivering the goods without mistakes etc.

Good luck

Melanie Said:

Does 'relevant experience' and 'work experience' include education?

We Answered:

Technially, no. Education is not work experience.

If they say they want 1 or 2 years of 'relevent expereince' that means you've done that type (or a similar kind) of work for 1 to 2 years. Now that does not mean it had to be previous employment ... it could be volunteer work, it could be an internship, it could be any real-life experience outside of the classroom as long as the experience is the same or similar to the type of 'work experience' they want.

Good Luck!

Sergio Said:

My education and work experience has increased, why hasn't my salary?

We Answered:

My wife is getting her Masters in Systems Engineering, and her company told her she'd get a handshake when she got her masters. It was meaningless salary-wise to them, and she does satellite operations...

I do defense contracting and its the same in my world really...The only difference is between a Bachelors and a PhD. A Masters can be substituted with 2 years of experience...

So to answer i dont think its just you!

Gwendolyn Said:

What is better getting work experience or education?

We Answered:

Keep the full time job and just finish the education as you're able. At the end of 5 years, 7 years or whatever, you'll have the degree AND the job experience. Plus you won't be in a boatload of debt.

If you speed up the education track you'll have less money now and less experience when you graduate. You'll also have gone into debt most likely, because you've had less money to live on while in school.

Don't be in a rush. But consider taking classes in the summer too if possible and that'll give you an extra semester of credits earned every year. Consider taking classes online if that's an option. You can do that after the kids are in bed at night to move things along quicker.

Good luck to you. It's not easy to single parent, much less do it while working full time AND going to school. I'm proud of you and we've never even met :)
