One of the most persuasive experiences a teenager can list on an application for a paying job is volunteer work. The ability to perform volunteer work steadily over time (preferably 6 months or more) indicates to a prospective employer that the individual is reliable, responsible, motivated and caring.

Almost no one will turn down a teenager who shows up and volunteers to do work. The important work, however, takes place after the commitment is made. That includes staying with it, showing up to work on time, and bringing the best of herself to the work she has volunteered to do.

These are the qualities that will give her a great work reference. They are indispensible to any prospective employer. They will serve your daughter well not only in landing her first job(s) but throughout her working life. Of course, as you know being a parent, they're also not bad qualities to have in most other areas of life as well.

Call up and say
"Hi my name is ______ ______ and I have been assigned to do work experience at ________ could i please speak to _________ __________"
Afterwards ask what time you need to arrive each day, when you start, what you will need to bring and what attire is appropriate. Anything else you are not sure of ask in advance.

In terms of tips speak clearly and confidently and most importantly be polite and friendly.

they will understand that it is your first jobso dont worry to much. if you want to make it look more full make sure you inclde your hobbies such as puzzles, skate boarding, siing ect. and also any exta curicular schol activities you are involved in along with any community service hours you have done, also make sure to include any references and that should fill up some room.
