Work Experience Fashion Design

Jorge Said:

Year 10 work experience, fashion design industry.?

We Answered:

Heya,

Ahh, I remember doing work experience at your age - it's really fun, so enjoy :)
Some of my friends wanted to go into the fashion / designing industry and I'm pretty sure Debenhams offers places for handbag designing. My friend spent a week there and got free samples, so bigger chains are well worth looking into :) Ooh, Lacoste also often accept placements, but it's for working on the shop floor.

As you're looking for something smaller, maybe ask local one off boutiques unique to your area. I'd guess they might be more willing to help if you contacted them personally :)

I did my work experience at an architects office which wasn't exactly what I wanted to go into, but still in the same field, so no worries if your work experience doesn't fit your future job exactly. I did some more work experience this summer at a department store working at places like Guess, buut, again it was just on the shop floor, not designing. Perhaps if you really wanted a design orientated job, offices/workshops would be better than shops?

Sorry I don't live in / know Leeds that well but you could also try looking into magazines (Grazia, Vogue ..) aand usually they have editorial sections. That'd be an amaazing opportunity, so search around and apply to a wide selection of places :)
Don't worry if you get rejected from a couple or if the work doesn't exactly suit you, it's a fantastic opportunity and your field of interest looks really exciting :)

Good luck!

im 15, nearly 16 & i live in victoria...im trying to get work experience for a week in fashion design?

We Answered:

i have no idea where victoria or melbourne is but here are some tips

-work closely with your art teacher to get a portfolio ready for colleges
-work with your musical or play directer to help make costumes
-work with retail stores to get a head start in the business
-sketch some designs that you want to design in the future
-learn how to use all equipment

i use to wanna be a designer but i figured the competiton would be to difficult and its not a steady job..you never know when your designs will be wanted and when they will be hated

Work experience (Art or fashion design)?

We Answered:

try the local universities, art/fashion students are always looking for people to help with projects! (i know i am!) it's always good to get some expierience with universities if you're intending to go down that path, try the lecturers aswell (art lecturers are always nice!)

Kay Said:

I would like a internship/work experience in fashion design?

We Answered:

You're going to have to do the hard work rather than asking on yahoo answers; phone, email or write to fashion magazines, head offices of fashion shops and tell them you're willing to work for them for free. It's unlikely they'll give you an internship as they're for older people who are out of school/have a degree but they're very likely to give you work experience. Good luck!
