Work Experience For Adults

Terry Said:

work experience for adult who is having trouble finding job?

We Answered:

is it a career change? if so say that its a career change and u want to gain experience in that area. at the end of the day someone is gettng free work out of you, and people aint gonna turn that down!

just be honest, say u are looking to improve your knowledge (in whatever area) and business practice and would appreciate the opportunity of an interview for a work placement (if they have and opportunities available.) you believe that you can never gain enough knowledge and you feel a work placement would make you more employable. and a placement with such a reputable company as the one you are applying to would be an excellent opportunity!....

good luck! u'll b fine.

what to include in letter asking for work experience as an adult non graduate?

We Answered:

I'm a graduate in the same position. I can tell you by Friday (that's when I see the careers advisor) but until then I would also be interested in the responses.

Could i do work experience at Ealing Studios, in Ealing, London?

We Answered:

Most people of work experience only get to see the boring bits. I have worked on plays where a number of people have come for work experience. In rehearsals they get to do things like photocopying and helping to move props and furniture. Rehearsals are quite boring if you are not acting or have a specific job to do. People who have had work experience on shows can rarely be given much to do as they are only around for a few days, so a lot of time is spent sitting in the dark watching other people work (or not if it is a quiet show). I know that some places need students to be over a certain age (sometimes 18) and studying a particular course. Get your school or parents to find out about work experience opportunities. It won't necessarily help your career, but you might get an insight into how that part of the business works.

Should I include unrelated work experience on my resume?

We Answered:

Write a strong summary and impress the prospective employer that through your computer and research skills you will succeed in the prospective job.

Leverage the cover letter also to highlight your skills that's related to the new job.

You have to include your security work experience. How much description you want to give for the same depends on the depth and breadth of your computer and research skills. If you've good enough info on the latter, then focus more on those skills and give only a brief description of your present work.

Here's the format for your resume:

1. Name, address, telephone numbers (work and home), and e-mail ID
2. Summary of your computer and research skills and previous work experience (focus only on work that would apply to the new job)
3. Computer skills
4. Research skills
5. Core courses related to the field of new work
6. Education details
7. Professional work experience
8. Membership in professional associations related to the field of new work

Kim Said:

How do you get experience if no one will hire you?

We Answered:

Just keep applying to jobs even if you don't meet their experience requirements. Do your best to make your resume and cover letter polished so they stand out - seriously, ask ten people to read and critique them. A lot of employers will make an exception for your "lack" of experience if they have a low number of applicants or if they simply like you. You can acknowledge in your cover letter that you don't have the 3 years experience, but feel that you have experience in other ways and list those things: raising your 5 kids, etc.
Good luck!
