I happen to be going through the same thing as you! I'm in year 10 as well in Victoria and am looking for work experience. Eh, we were told about it in October so we could get a head start but I haven't bothered with it until now. Whoops!
Personally, I'm interested in jobs that are medical as I want to be a pharmacist when I grow up. So I applied for the Alfred Hospital. Other hospitals include Royal Womens, Royal Childrens, Austin, Box Hill, Freemasons, Epworth, and St Vincents. (try the Alfred, applications opened today)
If you are interested in sport, you could apply for the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic centre at Albert Park, or even try Cricket Australia. Maybe even try your local pool.
Another one you might consider if you like working with little kiddies is your primary school or kinder.
You can also try applying for work at libraries but I'm not sure that it would be that interesting.
The Police and Fire brigade are excellent choices for work experience. Maybe try the fire brigade first though because I think the placements for police have already filled.
Last of all try the Melbourne Museum, Melbourne Aquarium, RSPCA and Scienceworks. You'll get lots of hands on experience there. You will get some chances to talk to visitors, not just the odd jobs.
