well considering your interested in police why not try the police a friend of mine is doing work experience there. Ring up your local branch and ask if they offer placements! Otherwise you could try science departments of a nearby university? Try different work placements to see which job is right for you. all work placements help in the future it doesnt matter what the work placement is but what your learn from it.

I tried relentlessly to get into a hospital for my year 10 work experience. However, I was turned down due to my age. Even knowing a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon didn't help me on my quest to gain experience involving contact with patients. You have to be in 6th form to do this, and even then you have to compete with university students to get a placement.

As a result of this, I did my placement within an NHS Care Trust. I worked with the public health team. I had an absolutely brilliant week which involved work with the Lifestyles Team, the Infection Control team and various other people. This put me into contact with doctors, nurses and various other healthcare workers.

So, in short, there isn't really anything surgery wise, however, get in touch with your local Care Trust, outline your aspirations, and then you will get an overview of the NHS, as well as being able to meet people who may well have worked in surgery in the past.
