Work Experience Form

Frank Said:

To study medicine at uni, do you have to do some form of work experience in a hospital/doctors surgery?

We Answered:

Yes - its advisable to have work experience in a hospital preferably. However, as you are 17 when you apply - most hospitals will not accept applications so have you thought about becoming a volunteer?

Here you can help patients on the wards eat, work in admin and sort files etc and chat with the patients etc. It looks really good on your application and will stand you in good stead as its voluntary work. Try also volunteering in a nursing home or day centre if the hospital doesn't work out.

My college arranged for me to go on 3 days work experience in a hospital as i was only 17. So try and talk to someone in your college and see if they can arrange it for you.

Good luck - the work experience/voluntary work is a real eye opener and can often help you realise what it is you want whether this be medicine or not! Many of my friends realised that medicine was not for them

I lost my Work Experience placement form and it is overdue. Am I in deep trouble?

We Answered:

Just have them fax the sheet to you. if you don't have a fax, ask a local business place if you can have someone fax something there for you..no biggie. or call them and have it mailed to you! They probably even have a form that you can print out ONLINE! Try to find it ONLINE first..and then try the other methods!

As for the heap of trouble..I'm not sure. You'll have to make a personal call on that one! Even if it's late, it's better if you turn it in as soon as possible anyways! You'll be the next batch they touch..or sometimes they may look at yours anyways because THEY have run late and have new due dates or a grace period for people to turn it in!
