Work Experience Gap Year

Stella Said:

Gap Year help work vs uni?

We Answered:

If you do not feel that uni is the best option for you, then do not feel that you are obliged to go.
If you are in a job u enjoy, then why change that?

Of course uni is presented as the right thing to do... but that does not mean its right for YOU.

I went to uni, and in retrospect I wish i went into work to be honest.

If you have the itch to work, then thats what you should do.

No point going to uni if you do not feel it is what you want.

And not going to uni is not going to make you stupid. In some cases its the opposite to be honest.

Do what you feel right by you.

Msc course after 3 years gap and no work experience.....is it worthwhile?

We Answered:

This would depend on how you wanted to progress your career.

If you are able to do as Tigon advises then this would be the best option.
Otherwise the decision has to rest with you. No one on YA knows your situation, your age and your motivation.

Getting work experience is an option if you don't want to spend £15 000.00 on an MSc. You may even find an employer who funds your further degrees.

vaulentery work- gap year?

We Answered:

Try VSO - they are a charity which sends workers all over the world (link below).

Otherwise try organisations like WorldVision that are known for providing help in the third world - I don't know whether they really do this or not, but you can check out their site for a start.

Otherwise there are loads of random schemes that I've heard of, but to be honest if you're going to go to a dodgy part of the world then you're better to go with an organisation that everyone's heard of.

I've never done it myself though.

Help! I am planning to take a gap year either in UK or in the US, any solutions?

We Answered:

Hey there...well if you are looking for a Paid Internship, you can go through Leave UR Mark. It's not in the U.S. or the U.K. but rather in India. It will be much cheaper than going to the U.S. or U.K. and surprisingly since India is a dominantly English speaking country as well as the future of the business and economic world, it would be really good for your experience. Leave UR Mark has a paid opportunity to work in hospitality management for 6 months. You will be communicating with other Europeans, Americans, Australians, and Indians in English since you'll be in the hospitality industry. You can check out the site and email them for any questions on the paid program. http://www.leaveurmark.com

Information on doing a gap year to California - paid work?

We Answered:

To get a paid gap year job in the USandA, you will need to lean hard on a friend or relation that owes you a biiiiiig favour.

Even then, it will be tough.

Your employer would have to file an incredible amount of paperwork to get you a visa.

There is recession in California and a glut of unskilled workers being paid a pittance to work grueling jobs.
