Work Experience In Film Industry

Jeffrey Said:

Make up hair stylist want to work in the film industry help?

We Answered:

The Makeup Artist is responsible for applying makeup and/or special makeup effects to the on-camera talent so that they appear in the “look” approved by the Director. Most of the time, beauty makeup is applied, which removes imperfections so that the result makes the talent appear better than someone could in real life. Some of the time, however, special effects makeup techniques are used to add imperfections, to enhance the reality of life or to create something wholly unnatural. Most Effects Makeup Artists can do both, but not all Beauty Makeup Artists are qualified to do effects.

Most shows will have only two people for the duration, the Department Head and the Key. As far as IATSE Local 706 is concerned, you can move back and forth from Head to Key from show to show. There is no inherent seniority in those titles.

On very heavy days when, say, you’ve got a roomful of zombies played by scores of Extras, a lot more Makeup Artists will be hired as DAYPLAYERS to plow through the work so it is finished by crew call.

Hair is its own department in the union environment. On ultra-low-budget shows, you may be expected to do both Makeup and Hair, but once you start working on large union shows, you have to specialize in one or the other.

Working on freebies, deferred payment jobs, or the “this is a GREAT PROJECT” call gives you more experience, a larger resume and portfolio and more contacts to call in the future. But more than that, it gives you “days.” To work on the big stuff where you can make better money, you almost always have to be part of IATSE Local 706. There are three main ways of gaining membership...

To find out what those are and to learn EVERYTHING you need to know about creating a career in Makeup or Hair, check out the book listed below.

Good luck with your career!

Anita Said:

Can anyone tell me the experience of news channels are count in a film industry or not?

We Answered:

Why would a reputable news channels hire anyone as an editor from the film industry?

Oh wait you don't mean "editor" you mean a film editor, not the same thing at all.

In that case, your experience working as an "editor" will be viewed much as working as an editor on any television show. Obviously, it won't be held to the same standard as someone not working on a deadline, but the experience will still be considered valid.

Ken Said:

What does it take to get into the film industry? What should I study?

We Answered:

John Said:

People with experience in the film industry, is it worth my time to go to film school?

We Answered:

Tracy Said:

Christina Said:

work experience on a film set?

We Answered:

Might be an idea to write to some of the more independent channels, such as 'Living', etc. BBC have always been a bit hard to conquer, as I have known people try to get a foot in the door, with them in the past and all I can say is that the two people I am thinking of that have now gone into TV, but doing other stuff, tried the more independent channels. Also? Have you tried Channel 4? They tend to sponsor young people to go into the film industry. You have taken a great first step, by researching early. Make sure you write early and don't give up Leanne! All the best! Like I said, my two friends got in with much persistence!
PS: Please take care of weirdo's contacting you via email, or IM. I'm sure you're sensible enough, but just to reinforce, that they will go as far to offer 'jobs' and 'opportunities', that do not exist. Make sure your Parents or Guardians are aware of any contact in this way. Some may be genuine...but others may not. Even at my ripe old age, I'd tell me Mum! Just be careful...sorry...just the mothering instinct coming out in me!
