Work Experience In Hospital
Mark Said:
Hospital work experience/ volunteering? UK...?We Answered:
Hi, I think it would be a great idea to get some experience.I started as a Theatre Porter, collecting patients from the ward and bringing them down to the department. You learn heaps about how the whole place works. Hospitals are another world - theatres even more so! Anything in the Operating Theatres would be best even if it is something really menial! - you'll be able to mix with the ODPs. Or anywhere you will get some contact with the patients. It will really give you an edge when it comes round to interview time, you'll be able to show a real understanding of what the role is.
Also have a look on FaceBook for "The Operating Department Practioner" (Yes it is spelt like that!) and the Student Operating Department Practitioner. You can post questions on there - everyone is really friendly and helpful. I'm in NZ so I run The NZ Anaesthetic Technician page. Most of us are ODA's and ODPs too.
Good Luck!
