Work Experience In Law

Sarah Said:

Ideas for year 12 work experience for Law?

We Answered:

I would find any solicitors nearby or within a range you could travel to each day.

You could write to them and ask about work experience.

Maybe you could find thier web sites and get information on who to contact in the individual firms.

There may be other opportunities - but as I do not know your location I would not be sure they exist your way. Does a local college or uni near you have a law course - maybe you could spend time with them - to get a feel for your future studies - not sure if this would count as work experience though.

Check the local phone book and see if there are any law offices near you.

Maybe some firms local to you have a legal dept -

The Citizens advice bureau also act to advise the public re legal matters etc - but this owuld be an option if you could not get a placement in a law firm.

Maybe if there is a local court that would be something to explore also as they may have lawers there acting to give legal aid.

The trading standards dept at the council work mostly on enforcing consumer law
and working with the public to both explain the law and how things work.

The local council would also have a legal dept.

The Police HQ would have many aspects of the law in action and the processes involved but this would limit to criminal law only.

Work experience/work placement in law?

We Answered:

hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are so many unemployed lawyers (one that have passed the bar exam) that even paralegal jobs (temporary placements) are being filled by lawyers.

You could check with a local small law office and see about being an office assistant, but you wont get to see anything really important.
