Work Experience In Midwifery

Byron Said:

Personal Statement! Improvements needed?

We Answered:

I am (currently) at … . My target grades for my GCSE subjects all range between A*-C grades. Consequently I would like to move on to study my A-Levels at …

I would like to Study at … as I believe i could benefit from continuing my education here. I have enjoyed my previous years studying here, find the atmosphere refreshing and I feel that I can connect well with the teachers.

I am hoping to enter a career in midwifery and I feel that this school could give me the best possible qualifications needed to later study midwifery at university.

I feel I would be a good student as I have contributed positively to the school community in previous years. For example I have helped lead the year 8 after-school cookery club alongside Miss .. as well as helping prepare food for the 2009 Christmas concert. During both of these tasks I was able to efficiently use my DT food skills, which shows I can apply my knowledge in real life scenarios.

Leading on from this I have repeatedly assisted at the year 7 open evening and also welcomed children and teachers from primary schools to a lets get cooking day hosted by …

In the wider community, I previously attended a children’s activity club at my local church. Now I help the supervisors every Friday collecting money, preparing the room for craft activities, singing and in particular working with an young boy with a genetic skin disorder, ensuring that he is safe from harm and can take part in the majority of the activities. Recently, I have taken on the job of organising the games such as an obstacle course.

I think I would be a beneficial student to have at … as I am Ambitious, Competent, Enthusiastic and I work well In a team, as shown by my dedication to the school and children's activity club. On the other hand I also feel comfortable working independently and am happy to follow instructions. I am Organised, which will help me ensure that i meet all deadlines.

When on my work experience at Copper Beech Nursery I enjoyed the change in scenery and adapted easily. I found the working environment quite intimidating at first, but as time progressed i was able to interact with the people I was working alongside. This helped me become more confident and I began to enjoy the experience more. I was praised for how well I was able to interact with the children and feel that I fit don'tell.

(dont need to say year 11)
(dont need to be as specific)

How to be positive without being pushy on a Uni application?

We Answered:

Leave out

"I do not wish for any other career or job ad I hope that I am offered a place on the Midwifery degree for 2010 entry. If I am unsuccessful I will apply for 2011, then 2012 then each year until I'm accepted!"

This doesn't sound right for a personal statement . Also instead of saying although this was not the vocation i wished for , just highlight the benefits and what it taught you that is useful to the role. Why do you want to use alternative therapies and campaigning for breastfeeding, what benefits do you think this reaps upon the parent and mother and how do you know this?. Maybe say something like, from research and personal experience I have gained a particular interest in alternative therapies in the labour process, which I find significantly helpful to mother's overall well being. Furthermore, I hope to increase awareness of breast feeding benefits, and am interested in creating strategies to aid women to breast feed with confidence. Also try to remove terms like mum, mother sounds more Professional, you mention philosophy in your highers but don't explain how this helps you. Maybe something like, through my studies in philosophy I have gained a greater understanding of cultural diversities which I believe will aid me to connect with a wide range of people and tailor care accordingly.

Sounds good though, If there are only 30 places I expect you will receive an interview after the personal statement, I think this is perfectly suitable to get you into an interview.

Home educated gcse questions?

We Answered:

Hmm, Chemistry might be a better fit for a medical career than Physics. Work experience will be tricky because it sounds like you'd need the some basic medical training before being allowed to do much of anything.

Please help with my personal statement?

We Answered:

Why did you want to become a mid wife? For example: I find that midwifery was a calling to me as I have always loved to help people. The fact that I can help a women when she's given birth to a new life...then go with your experience, your grades.

Clifford Said:

question on midwifery;

We Answered:

the midwifery education programme is now degree level and is getting harder to get on the course. Some places expect 5GCSE's other want A Levels before you even apply to be a student midwife.
Once you are in 6th form, write to your local maternity hospitals to see if you can do a "taster week". We have "taster" students all the time. They can't actually do anything, but they observe loads and get a real taste of midwifery. Unfortunately you are not allowed to do work experience at the mo within a maternity hospital as you just aren't old enough. Have a look at these 2 websites. One is NHS careers, the other is Liverpool John Moores Hospital.
Feel free to contact me via this site if you need any help with anything 'future midwife' x

We Answered:

30 is the right age to move, but you have to consider family amongst a lot of other things.
