Work Experience In Nursing
Lydia Said:
do i include non-nursing working experience in my nursing resume? We Answered:
If you show how it is relevant. For example a nurse has to do reports so a job doing reports would be helpful. Don't go into your high school jobs.Roberta Said:
please help! possibly nurses :) Work experience in a hospital? We Answered:
Volunteer work counts as work experience. Perhaps start out as a Candy Striper (hospital volunteer) which will give you an idea of how a hospital works, will expose you to many departments and people so you can make a more educated decision. It is how I started and I was a nurse all my like until I retired.Mitchell Said:
I need to work in a hospital for my nursing school application, but have no experience!?We Answered:
Go to several hospitals and speak to the Human Relations department./Darlene Said:
What would i do for my work experience? 10P?We Answered:
Nurse- Send a formal letter to your local hospital asking if they do work experience. If they don't, other options include at local hospices, nursing homes and doctors.PE/Drama Teacher- Apply at your own school, but if you don't want to do your work experience at your school then you could do it at a local leisure centre/tennis club/ gym et.c.
Leo Said:
What is the best field of nursing to work in?We Answered:
Psychiatric. More contact with people, you make more of a difference to their lives & you're not a slave to the computer as general nurses are.Deborah Said:
Should a new graduate nurse list non-healthcare work experience? We Answered:
You want to keep your resume down to one page, so listing every job you ever had may not be possible or a good idea. A resume should be used to highlight your experience, education, and qualities. You definitely want to emphasize your healthcare-related experience, but you may have to fill in the holes with other jobs, preferably those that you can relate with the jobs in which you are applying, especially if asked; though it may not be a nursing position doesn't mean that it won't be helpful, example- customer service and dealing with people is essential to most nursing jobs, computer, phone, and clerical skills, etc. are also helpful. When interviewing remember that you can use your school clinicals as well as previous work experience to answer questions.Try to make your inexperience look as attractive as you can; "I am eager to learn", "a quick learner". Keep an open mind about the types of facilities that you apply; my first LPN job was actually in corrections.
Remember that the first job is the first to land, once you get your foot in the door, it's much easier.
