Work Experience In The Music Industry

Misty Said:

I'm home educated, how do I go about work experience?

We Answered:

You're still young and should strongly consider getting some college experience before doing so much work now. There are several free and low cost ways to go about this if you are willing to work hard. Go to CollegeBoard.com to learn all about the AP, CLEP, and online dual credit programs offered by your local community college. Then use AcademicEarth.org and cheap books from Half Price Books or Amazon.com to assist in your studies. AcademicEarth.org has free online video courses with downloadable material from major universities such as Yale, Stanford, and MIT. It helped my son tremendously. He also used MathTutorDVD.com to advance his math skills enough to CLEP the PreCal at the college to allow him to go straight into Calculus and earn an A. He was able to skip College Algebra, Trig, and PreCal which saved him alot of time and me alot of money, while earning his 2 math requirements and 9 hours toward his associates. Along with all the other AP, CLEP, and online dual credit courses he will be taking this (senior) year, he will have over 1/2 his associates by the time he graduates high school. When trying to apply for a job, this will show the potential employer how hard of a worker he is and will earn him alot of respect. You might also want to check out Brainetics.com to improve your calculating ability, memory, and focus. I haven't tried it yet but I plan to buy it this week when I get paid. If you do all this, your job opportunities will be much greater than what they are now and you will have a much better education. Good luck and work hard.

Franklin Said:

Can anyone help me with my year 10 work experience?

We Answered:

You could always work in a music store like HMV like the person above me said, or Virgin. Just give them a call or send them and email and they'll get back to you. I do know of a music theatre in Peckham called the Magic Eye Theatre that'll let you work there if you want, or you could work in Peckham in radio station.

How should I go about trying to become a songwriter in the music industry?

find musicians to play your music and talk to the local radio stations they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

What kind of jobs are in the music industry?

We Answered:

There was a day when I too wanted to be a music star, obviously that didn't work out. I found that TV and video work help to fill the creative gap, and is similar to music in a way.

This might help:

Starting a career in the music industry?

We Answered:

the music industry is about experience and who you know. i'd try getting a foot in the door at a record label or a recording studio as an intern a few days a week. meet some people, and build some contacts, then try to go from there. there aren't a lot of entry level positions that i've seen.

look at places like studios, labels, publishers, promotions, merchandise, marketing, live venues, live sound companies just to name a few.

a lot will depend on where you are located. someone in the middle of south dakota will have less opportunities than someone in LA.

Jobs in the music or media industry any ideas?

We Answered:

Contact Paramount Entertainment or Avistar Records or Atlantic Records and fill out an application. If you have any musical ability be sure to mention that when you apply. Your Media training may get you the job..
