Justin Said:

Do summer jobs count as work experience?

We Answered:

Yes, it counts. Be sure to note it as a "summer job" so the short duration won't raise a red flag.

For that matter: unpaid volunteer work counts, too.

Lorraine Said:

Work experience jobs as a Systems Analyst or .net programmer?

We Answered:

Trawl the newspapers, Internet, word of mouth, write to them, Job Centre etc, etc. Get out there and sell yourself. [not to be taken literally!] Hope you have some luck, it's a tough area to get into.

Jimmie Said:

Why do many employers require 2-4 years of relevant work experience for entry level jobs?

We Answered:

They want someone else to do the job of training for them. Which is a huge mistake. They could get a great worker and train them on the job. And maybe earn that person's loyalty for years and years..
I want you to apply anyway. Tell them that you will learn 2 years in 2 months if they hire you..

Rick Said:

Do self-employed jobs count as work experience for undergraduate college applications?

We Answered:

Absolutely, teaching is teaching regardless. If you do that though you may just want ask the persons that you are teaching to write a brief letter and make it part of your policy to get some written feed back that you can add to your resume. Good luck with your career hope all goes well for you.

Elaine Said:

How on earth will I get "experience" if all the jobs that I can work require experience ?

We Answered:

Invent yourself. What can you do? Can you do it well enough to get paid for it? Cut, split, and stack firewood by the cord, for an
example. I hereby declare you have worked for Ms. Alice Smith,
for three summers at her red brick house on Dock Street, Perth,
doing exactly that until she sold her house and moved back to
Cornwall, England. You have from her a typed letter of appreciation for hard work, good manners, and extra hours ...
(Lift up this letter to show at next interview). Understand now?

Discuss It!
