Work Experience Nursing

Joyce Said:

Is an Associate's degree in nursing and two years work experience enough for the Peace Corps?

We Answered:

Maybe, but talk to a recruiter. It will likely depend on that person's perception of you, your professionality, maturity and experience.

89 pecent of applicants have a four-year degree, but work experience is good, too.

Larry Said:

Work experience before becoming a Nurse Practitioner?

We Answered:

Clinicals do not count as work experience; you are not managing patient care on your own at all. You are in a protected environment learning. If you think work experience is dumb, you may make a dangerous NP.

Kelly Said:

I want to ask where can we find the requirements to qualify in australia as a nurse like work experience ?

We Answered:

The guidelines can be found at:
http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/occupations/…
http://www.anmc.org.au/international/ind…
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/medical-p…

You will need an absolute minimum of 6 on each of the 4 IELTS components, but the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) may require higher IELTS scores or may insist on OET English.

Hazel Said:

what should i put in a letter asking for work experience?

We Answered:

Yes. It will be a huge help both for your entry to medical school and any future job.

In the letter, explain your age, how much you'd like to volunteer [you cannot work at 12 in the UK] and how you hope to work in medicine when you're older.

Good luck!

Carmen Said:

How can I get experience in nursing without having any certifications?

We Answered:

CNA should not take long at all to get...and yes it is kind of demeaning work, but someone has to do it and you WILL for sure get some nursing like experience. I have a friend who got her masters in nursing not have had any clinical experience...and she did just fine (her undregrad was in exercise science) But if you are concerned then i would say CNA is they way to go for sure.

Ramon Said:

Working at a nursing home for work experience?

We Answered:

How this goes is really up to you. Sounds like you are well on your way to building this thing up in your head to a really horrible experience. Or you can look at it as a way to help other people. First, get some information about what this experience will entail. Chances are you will feel better about it after that. You should be given some orientation & guidance about how to interact with the folks. If it is a volunteer experience mandated by your school, it is unlikely that you will have to bathe anyone. You will probably do things like push them out to the day room for activities, play bingo with them, read to them, maybe feed them. Most older people in nursing homes are lonely and are incredibly grateful for any kindness that is shown them. Music almost always appeals to people of all ages. See if you can get some music (you can usually borrow CDs from the library) of music that was from their era & bring it with you. Stuff like Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, the Andrews Sisters - OK, it won't be music that you are gonna love, but they will.

Discuss It!
