Work Experience Placements In London

Esther Said:

Work experience for yr 10, London?

We Answered:

It might be hard to find work experience placements in the Medical profession. An employer such as the NHS would need to treat you like any other employee, vet you, supervise you, have insurance to cover your placement and owe you and their patients a duty of care. For them to take you on would be a big cost and a risk. You might get offered a placement doing some administrative tasks but I imagine this wouldn't really be what you are looking for.

Just a suggestion, but why not come at this from another angle? There are lots of places that may welcome work-experience placements that do not need you to come into contact with real-life patients and yet would teach you something about medical history/conditions and look very good on a CV

The Old Operating Theatre and Herb Garrett Museum is a small charity that maintains Europe's oldest Operating Theatre and has a good collection of objects illustrating medical history.

The Wellcome Collection is a medical charity with a fantastic museum of it's own and it also supports a major display at the Science Museum

The Royal College of Surgeons have one of the best (and oddest) Museums in London called The Hunterian

The Royal London Hospital and St Barts both have great little museums that rely on volunteers to keep them open http://www.bartsandthelondon.nhs.uk/abou…

Or you could volunteer your services to a charity specialising in helping people suffering from a particular condition eg Alzheimers, Leukaemia, Stroke etc. Do-it is a national database of such opportunities and this page has many links that may help

I hope you find something fun and stimulating for your placement.

Have you thought about going to an accountant? They combine Business and Maths, so it should be perfect for you!

Charlie Said:

Would London West End theatres offer work experience placements?

We Answered:

You could try contacting the theatre manager to find out what thir policy is. Many theatres have insurance issues with anyone classed as a child or under 18. It also depends on what sort of placement you are intereseted in. Acting would be a no, but you could find out who the head of stage is to find out if they take placements.
There doesn't seem to be a phone number, but the address is:
Apollo Victoria Theatre
17 Wilton Road
London
SW1V 1LL

I am in year 10 urgently need to find work experience for June in London?

We Answered:

If you want to work with animals, try writing to an animal shelter like Battersea Dog's Home, or your local vet, asking if you could do work experience there. If you'd rather do journalism, write to your local newspaper - if it's fairly small you may end up getting a very good placement where you get to do a lot. For art, I'd try a museum or theatre. You're more likely to get it if you aim small and local. Good luck!
