Work Experience Placements Law

Frederick Said:

Law Work Experience Question...Driving To Court?

We Answered:

As this is work experience, go with the person that you are shadowing. This will give you more of an opportunity to get the full experience, but it will also allow you to discuss events of the day with her as well.

There is a very practical reason for not driving yourself, and that is the car insurance. You may well not be covered as, even if this is unpaid, it may be classed as business use and invalidate your policy.

Despite that, try to get the maximum that you can from the placement.

i want to do a week of work experience either with a law firm or in a court, how do i go about doing that?

We Answered:

They will not take you without reference form a school or college. But you can volunteer at a local citizens advice bureau for experience, but you ill have to sign a confidentiality agreement where ever you go in this area.

Amber Said:

Everyone in year 10 has to find a 1 week work experience placement, can I do anything for law?

We Answered:

Try to get work placement in law firms! Your school may have connections with law firms so try to get them to get your work experience with law firms. Or you can maybe try high street firms, write them a letter asking if they will offer you work experience. Also try courts, Magistrates and County Courts in my area offer work experience. So maybe in your area they will do the same. You school should also have connections with them.

At this stage it doesn't matter what field of law you do the work experience, all that matters is that you get work experience that is something law related. But you don't have to get work experience in something law related to study a law degree or even pursue a career in law. For example, I'm studying law at university but I didn't do work experience in anything law related, mine was in a hair salon!! totally different. So don' feel disheartened if you don't get it in a law firm. Once you've started your degree you can get work experience so it doesn't really matter if you don't get any at this stage.

Good luck and hope you enjoy your work experience =)
