Work Experience Placements London

Diana Said:

Year 10 Work experience?

We Answered:

I think the only place that would be willing to take on a year 10 student is a solicitors. My good friend had work experience in a local solicitors in year 10 and she really enjoyed it. Even though most of the tasks she did were filing, organising and typing up memos etc, she enjoyed learning the basics and how the system works. It's a good starting point.

Try going onto Google and typing in 'solicitors in Bromley' (or wherever you are in London!) and it should give you a list of local solicitor branches. Choose a few and call them, asking if they would be willing to take you on. Give them the dates you'll be there etc.

The best of luck!

How can i get a work experience placement in Fashion in London?

We Answered:

Ok first of all the only work experience you would get in a boutique or shop is a sales assistant. Which can be of some advantage on your CV if you want to go into fashion. But there are better ideas.
At a college they wont really give you work experience - unless you want to be a teacher or teachers assistant. Even if its a textiles or fashion design teacher. You would have to be on the actual course to get anything good there.

It depends on what side of fashion you want to get into.

If you want to design and create fashion then try getting into a tailors or dressmakers. There's plenty of small dressmaking companies in and around London who will be glad of the extra help and with work experience they don't even have to pay you.

If you want to be on the media side of fashion or critic etc etc then try going for a fashion magazine.
Some of the bigger magazines offer work experience placements but from what I know you have to practically win a contest to get in there. But even catalogue work or online would be the same. Its just the names you want on your CV really.

Just google some dressmakers or tailors or even independent fashion designers around your area. Individuals who want to make it big but have to start off small or online. Check ebay for some designers/dressmaker sellers that are in your area.

Otherwise have a look at the websites for some of the UK's fashion magazines. Or online magazines or catalogue companies (try the ones who do the jobs for the bigger fashion shops).

Just email or contact everyone - if you ask enough people you WILL get in somewhere.
