Work Experience Programs

Nathan Said:

Can anybody help me to write a letter asking for Work Experience at a GP?

We Answered:

Firstly, don't do EITHER - do BOTH volunteering at an old people's home and something else in a more medical setting, either GP or hospital or both. This is what med schools want and you'll be in competition with people who have done loads of stuff; do as much as you can rather than the minimum.

As to what to put in the letter, say that you're interested in medicine and want to get some more experience. Put your age and contact details, what you want to be doing (shadowing a GP for example rather than being stuck on reception!) and if you've got relevant experience or an in-date CRB form. Make sure everything is spelt right and that it is set out as a letter.

What kinds of MBA/MPA/MPP programs do not require work experience?

We Answered:

You can always just 'take' a 'online' one and 'print' out a diploma. If there is question during a interview, just say smart things likke "Alan Greensback" and "mortage flu toxins"

Work experience for getting into PsyD programs?

We Answered:

Hi
I'm in an APA accredited program at Argosy University. I enrolled last fall into their Psy.D program in clinical psychology and I love it. It's very challenging. The assignments include: 200 pages of reading a week, 5-6 presentations every semester, 80-100 pages of writing each semester, and you need to work on your dissertation on top of that.
In addition, you need to find volunteers, not first degree relatives or your spouse, to do you cognitive/personality testing during your first year (2 people per semester for three semesters). You need a video camera, as they require you to conduct clinical interviews with people you hardly know, and present them in class.

Then you need to apply to practicum in your second semester (first year), which means that you send out applications to about 4-12 different sites. The sites include: community mental health clinics, schools, or hospitals. You need three letters of recommendation when you apply, and if you are thinking about working with children, then I see no reason why they would not consider you with your work experience. Be sure to get a strong letter from your current supervisor! However, If you want to work with adults then I would volunteer a few hours a week doing crisis counseling on a hot line. When I applied to practicum, my only clinical experience was doing some crisis counseling on a hot line for a year, and I spent four months at a substance abuse treatment program. When I interviewed at local community clinics and at schools, they told me that I had enough clinical experience to work there. I think you would be fine.

Good luck!

What are the main requirements for taking part in Camp America's work experience programme?

We Answered:

Google search 'camp America'. check all the camp America websites e.g the new Zealand site, the Australian site. There will be requirements and there should be a forums section of the site. make an account on the forums section. I know the new Zealand site has quite a good forums site. try it, hope i helped.
